Take it to the max

Who would have thought we were on our way into summer territory with this typical British weather? Here's a very autumn inspired outfit of the day complete with dark vampy lip. As I am a what you would call a "short-ass" I do find it a big problem finding maxi dresses and skirts to fit me in length but this summer I am going to tackle this problem. I have one that I really enjoy styling and I've been wanting to get this maxi skirt out for a while. Its a lovely fitted maxi that only cost me £2 once upon a time in Primark, I would say a good 4 years ago. These were the days where everything was dirt cheap however Im sure everyone is aware that the prices have gone up a little over the past few years. But hey I still find it great value and more often then not actually not bad quality. Not sure how this post has turned into an ode to my love of Primark. So back to my point; maxi skirts don't have to be just a summer item as here I have teamed it up with my grey sparkle loose knit jumper and metallic chelsea boots. Not yet ready to get my feet out of boots and into sandals, which today was just as well as true to form the heavens opened.

Testing out a darker lip today. I haven't been able to find the right vampy shade for me so I have mixed a dark brown lip liner with a plum lipstick for my ideal colour. Mixing liners and lipsticks is a great way of creating a new colour without going out and spending money on an all new lipstick. Its also a good idea for using colours in your make up collection that don't uselessly see the light of day.

Date night

Celebrating mine and the boyfriends two year anniversary in the beautiful city of Bath. Unfortunately didn't manage to capture many pics of the outfit accept for this one. All together this outfit cost me £23; not bad aye. Jumping out of my comfort zone here with this lovely red dress. Thank god for the peplum design on the dress to cover up a big old bloat from a romantic meal and many a pint. I decided to edge up the dress a little with the black studded skinny waist belt. Unfortunately the weather was miserable so couldn't wear the strappy nude heels I had planned to wear but I think these heeled black chelsea boots go just as well and stopped me from having soggy toes.

Sequins in spring

I bought this skirt a few months ago in the Oasis sale for £5 down from £28.Bargain! It was obviously from the remnants left over from christmas and winter stock but I just had to have it. Sequins predominately come out in full force on the high street during christmas time for party season. However  I am out partying in spring so can I still wear sequins? I didn't want to wait for Christmas to come back around just to wear this skirt so I have teamed it up with this spring floral blouse to contrast the sequins.

Metallic

Just an outfit of the day with some metallic details thrown in for good measure. Went out for lunch with my best friend celebrating her new job and the fact that the sun came out.
Jumper: Next (sale)
Skirt: Miss Selfridge (sale)
Bag: Oasis (gift)
Leather Jacket: Miss Selfridge
Boots: River Island (sale)

I got these lovely little earrings from a little market store in London 5 years ago on a college trip. My friend laughed at them and said I would never wear them; this is the second time I have worn them. But they are so cute, one is a little boy and the other is a little girl

Matching my boots with my nail varnish. Loving this new one from miss sporty. Cheap as chips (nom) and just gives a lovely effect, shows up green and purple in different lights. I know theres a couple of similar nail products on the market that give a similar effect like Rimmel and Macs 'mean and green'

Pub

It may not be appropriate to be posing with chips after a night out of cider consumption but my commitment to blogging has to be applauded here. Just a smart/casual outfit to catch up with my old friend at the pub. I like the contrasting colours of the royal blue collar against the neutrals in this short sleeved angora jumper. The jumper is a great way of layering and turning a summer dress into a spring outfit. It was unfortunately shrunk in the wash by my old housemate, a devastating ordeal at the time, however I have now found this is ideal as I can wear it cropped with highwaitsed items and dresses such as this; so thanks for doing my washing Kirsty.

Jazzy pants

This week I got through 3 pairs of tights, how does that happen!? A lot of my outfits are skirt and shorts combos and in this british weather, tights must be worn. So instead of tights I wanted to turn my attention to something a little more durable, trousers. There is so much variety when it comes to trousers, different styles and material. From jeans to silk hareems. On this occasion I got attracted to pattern. The patterned trouser; not to be confused with pyjama  bottoms, can seem like a daunting garment at first but worn correctly they can look great. The trick to wearing patterned trousers is to team them up with something plain and simple on top, keep the party downstairs. If you are conscious about the size of your hips and legs, keep the pattern small. Here are a few items I picked up at bargain prices. Bargains indeed but it all defeats the object when you buy three pairs of them. The aim is to take back at least 1 out of the three pairs I bought. We shall see...

H&M £12.99

I love a good polka dot and these were such a good value pair of treggings. The only downfall was that they wouldn't go past by bum! one of those things you look for when selecting trousers. The polka dot is smudged, almost like an ikat pattern. I love them had they not taken 5 mins to squeeze into. Shame

H&M £5

Originally £9.99 but currently on a 50% off offer. And another plus is,they did up! Good times. Love the print and colour combo on these, very interesting.

Peacocks £5

£20 down to a fiver in the sale, nice one. However looking at this picture now I see they may not be the most flattering for my hips.Maybe the pattern is too big or it may just be my stance. But i do love them. I was looking forward to wearing these when the sun decides to finally come out.

Charity guilt

Today I had that awkward dodging shuffle dance with a charity street fundraiser. I got caught, and stuck for an answer as to why I couldn't give money to his worth while cause. This time last year my mechanical response would have been "sorry, I'm a student" but this year I am in full time work, however still skint. Out of all the responses I could have given I said I was unemployed. He was taken aback (by my unconvincing lie) and said that I looked very well dressed for someone who is unemployed. A massive stereotype; but funny enough the whole outfit (not including coat/shoes/accessories) actually cost me £5 from Primark. I did not go into these deets with him, left them for my blog.

Jumper: Primark £3

Shorts: Primark £2

Metallic chelsea boots: River Island
sale £15

Leather Jacket: Miss Selfridge £50

Bag: Next sale £10
If I could donate my money to as many worthy charities out there I would. I will start donating on a regular basis to my preferred charity when I am on a steady and sustainable income. Until then I will have to partake in numerous more awkward avoiding dances on the street and maybe come up with a better lie.
